The Core Department teaches foundational skills in writing, public speaking, and research. The general goals of the Core courses are communication proficiency and information literacy.
The Core Department provides foundational knowledge and practice in communication proficiency and information literacy to prepare students to participate in a variety of academic, professional, and civic discourses.
CORE 101 focuses on writing and research. Students investigate research questions and explore how various disciplines have addressed those questions. They consider diverse approaches, thereby cultivating their critical thinking skills as they cross boundaries and disciplines.
In CORE 102, which focuses on public speaking and research, students find their voice to discuss topics important to them.
In accordance with Adrian College’s mission to help “contribute to a more socially just society,” Core encourages students to engage with social justice issues, inspiring students to care for humanity and the world and create a foundation for a lifetime of learning and inquiry.
