Theatre & Dance
Our theatre department will offer you a combination of academic preparation and practical experience that will prepare you for the real world.
Much of your work in the theatre department will be outside of the classroom. You will have opportunities to direct plays, write dramas, act on the main stage, design and build scenery, lighting, costumes, properties and makeup. You can try your hand at any aspect of the production onstage or offstage. You can be wherever your creativity and drive wants to take you. Many students take internships at the Croswell, or in other theatres in places such as Chicago, Boston and London. Each year, students attend the regional Kennedy Center’s/American College Theatre Festival where they compete for prizes and awards as well as work with other professionals in the field.Whether you are casting your one-act play, or launching your own improvisational theatre troupe, your professors will be there to help you every step of the way. They help you capture and master the joy of theatre.
Recent productions include: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Finn/Sheinkin), When The Rain Stops Falling (Andrew Bovell), 27 Wagons Full of Cotton and This Property is Condemned (Tennessee Williams), RENT (Jonathan Larson), A Nervous Smile (John Belluso), Othello (William Shakespeare), The Miss Firecracker Contest (Beth Henley), Company (Furth/Sondheim), The School for Wives (Moliere), and The Children’s Hour (Lillian Hellman).
