‘Derogatory’ exhibition opens in Nicolay Heritage Room

Meridon Taylor’s Senior Exhibition, Derogatory, is open now through December 14 in Adrian College’s Nicolay Heritage Room, located in Shipman Library. The reception for this solo exhibition will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Derogatory compares the way individuals describe people to their faces versus behind their backs. Specifically, Taylor’s artwork satirizes the harsh terms used towards others. When examining degrading figures of speech, she looked for hidden examples of absurdity. Taylor illustrates these examples through literal and ideological comparisons designed to open people’s eyes to the outrageousness of words used on a day-to-day basis.

This exhibition is free and open to the public. The Nicolay Heritage Room observes Shipman Library hours, which include Sunday from noon until midnight, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to midnight, Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
