The Office of Academic Services presented the 2016-2017 Excel Instructor of the Year Award to Dr. Jennifer Ellsworth, marketing professor and director of the Institute for Creativity, during its Fall Open House on October 18. A host of Excel members stopped in for the event, which took place from 12:00-2:00 pm in the Academic Services Suite (Jones 205).
Academic Services Director Linda Jacobs spoke highly of Ellsworth, who has received this honor three times in the past five years.
“Dr. Ellsworth challenges students to think critically and develop creativity, using their artistic and intellectual talents in alignment with our Adrian College Ribbons of Excellence,” Jacobs said. “Each time Dr. Ellsworth has accepted the award, she has addressed students with humility and gratitude for being appreciated in such a way. We, in turn, are grateful for Dr. Ellsworth and the great influence she has on our students.”
Ellsworth emphasized how “truly honored and appreciative” she felt as she reflected on the commendations.
“I am so proud and privileged to have gotten this award,” Ellsworth said. “It means so much to me, because it’s actually from students. They are in a position better than anyone else to know if what we as faculty are saying is of use to them, helpful to them or will be helpful to them in their future professional lives.”
The Excel Instructor of the Year Award is presented annually to a professor who has been influential to the voting members of Excel. The recipient of this award is given a certificate as well as honored with the addition of their name engraved on a plaque in Academic Services.
