Music Department Hosts 12th Annual Choral Festival

ADRIAN, Mich. –The Adrian College Music Department will host the 12th Annual Choral Festival for local high schools on Sunday, October 16th beginning at 3 pm in the Adrian College Chapel.

The College community invites you to hear some of the finest high school performances in the region. This event is free and open to the public, and will feature performances by high school choirs from Adrian, Bedford, Clinton, Madison, Onsted and Tecumseh. The 135-voice Adrian College Choir will also perform. Doors open at 2:45 p.m.

This year’s Festival clinician is Dr. Brian Altevogt. Dr. Altevogt is Chair of the Music Department and Director of Choirs at Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is also the conductor of the Lenawee Community Chorus at Adrian College. Prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor, Dr. Altevogt taught general music at the elementary level and directed high school and middle school choirs in Michigan and Indiana. He has served as Director of Music in churches in Michigan and Ohio and now enjoys directing an adult choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor.

The Concordia choral ensembles have been active under Dr. Altevogt’s leadership, singing in collaborative concerts, touring throughout the United States, singing annually for the Detroit Tigers, and releasing their first recording, Thy Light is Come. Dr. Altevogt has conducted festival choirs throughout the Midwest and adjudicates choir and vocal festivals in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

At the choral festival, the audience will have the opportunity to hear each of the choirs perform and then watch and listen as Dr. Altevogt works with each group on improving their performance.
